What’s a good game to begin with?

I used to play games when I was younger. Then I fell out of them. Recently I tried to play Halo with my little cousin and all the controls and the spinning just gave me a headache. It was fun—but dizzying. What’s a game all the “kids” are playing that’s easy on the learning curve?

I’d be interested in this myself.  I played Pong in the 70s and a bit of Star Wars flight sims in the early 90s.  Nothing since.

As an educator, I’d love to be more well-versed!

Play more games!

I know it may sound a bit odd, but for low-tech folks and teachers who don’t know a whole lot about games, playing games is the best way to learn about them.

I think between two to three weeks of consistent play is enough to get a feel for a game. There is an important thing here:

You have to know how the games work in order to answer questions and get a feel for how the game fits into your classroom and curriculum.

You don’t seem like a low tech person (posting in a forum requires certain skills) but I often advocate games for people who are having trouble getting started with technology - it’s like building an affective relationship with the computer.

Thanks for your post.
